European Dancing Bonds: Photo Album

Europe consists of many countries and peoples having different cultures. Is that totally true or we have more common roots than we believe? That is the main point of this aspect we are trying to understand and prove. We are a group of people, all volunteers, living in a small village in Greece and we all share our love for traditional dances, songs and their history through the years until now. Our group, named Sides, was created by us because we have a vision and our goal is to learn everything about our tradition through dance and music, not only as far as our country’s culture is concerned but also other European countries’ culture too. As a consequence of that vision we are trying to connect with foreign dancers or dancing groups, hosting them in Greece, organizing folkloric events where we exchange our dancing knowledge, skills, dancing and singing together and eventually knowing each other better. Although we have been taking up with dancing many years, the project officially was begun in 2012 and is under development. We have already hosted people from Romania and we are planning to visit them back in May. Moreover, we are going to visit Italy, Bulgaria and Ireland. Our further goals are to visit the whole Europe and understand and prove that we have many commons to share and some differences to exchange. Music and dance connect people even if we speak different languages or we have different habits and beliefs. Culture belongs to everyone, who can feel and understand it. The variety of rhythm of music can touch every single one of us and that is the way we can communicate throughout the whole Europe. The borders and distance cannot keep us apart.
